Slam

The ever popular band Slam will rock the Beer festival for the 4th time!!!

The rock/pop band was formed by established local vocalist Katie Lloyd, back in 2004 and has since gone from strength to strength. Slam performs a mix of some of the biggest rock hits from artists like Bon Jovi, Guns and Roses, Led Zep and The Rolling Stones.

The band has appeared on the same billings as some of the top artists in the world including, Suzi Quatro, Alvin Stardust and Status Quo, and has supported some of the top tribute acts in country!

This year Slam is proud to introduce a new member Paul Austin as a second guitarist, Paul brings a wealth of experience from many years playing around the London pub and Cabaret circuit, he joins fellow band members,

Dennis Wootton on bass guitar. who has been an active member of the local music scene which has spanned over 25 years. Multi talented, Dennis has played as a drummer and sax player with many local bands including Soul Express and the Culprits. However he is not so well known for his abilities as a guitar player. Dennis works well with the drummer proving a solid foundation in the rhythm section.

And dynamic lead guitarist, Jason Tilbury who is undoubtedly one of the best local musicians in town! Earning himself a standing ovation at a recent charity concert. Again he has been an active member of the local music culture and has been part of several working bands including The Rat Pack who toured with Steps and Five.

Drummer Tony Hughes, who has been with Slam since 2004 will be getting the crowd going with his larger than life personality and his cheeky antics on stage! Tony being true to himself says,' Av it!!!'

Lead vocalist Katie is no stranger to the 'Big Stage' this will be her 7th year performing at the Beer festival. She says ' Slam is very proud to be included in this event. it has a great atmosphere and the crowd is always 100% behind you, its an amazing feeling up there'.

Finally, Slam is happy to announce a special guest star will be performing with them on Friday night. Local keyboard player Ashely Pepper.who has performed with a number of great bands such as , The Blackman Brothers, Soul Express & The Pop Beat Combo.

Slam would like to thank its supporters  In Style and Intercare.

The Boatmen

The Boatmen, were first formed when singer songwriter Steve Dennis joined ex Vicious Minds members Darren Mitchell, Vince Evans and Shaun Cramp and ex Tabs drummer Phil Flack with a view to making a rock band with an individual sound. We instantly gelled and we decided to write an album together and one track is being used as the theme tune for Truck Racing on prime time Sky Sports channel. The Hastings Beer and Music Festival will be the launch pad for our new album

Mike Orson

A band formed with a purpose and a shared ideal. An ideal for making music without attaching boundaries to it, without limitting it, a purpose of creating an original sound. Allowing each song to develop organically as a piece and not just a 3-minute generic, making use of varied time signatures and rhythms, playing it with passion and devotion. Musianship being an important part of the group, a group of four individuals with a shared passion for perfecting their playing and a deep knowledge of their instruments, thus allowing a greater range of possibilities. The foremost basis for the music being on a classic style of songwriting, an approach to forming chord progressions and melodies that could be associated with British artists from the 70s and 80s, artists such as Elton John or Pink Floyd. Lyrically it is reminiscent of this period. Mike entered one of his songs and won Make It Break It 2005(judges include; Chris Martin of Coldplay, Harvey Goldsmith, Ms Dynamite, Steve Levine, Mark Radcliffe) with the band he was in at the time.

At the awards night Radio 2 DJ Mark Radcliffe gave his band this review:

"a band with a real musical flair, playing quality original songs and delivering them onstage with a real presence"

Mike also entered my song "When the Feeling Goes" into the National Songwriting Competition 2006 and was a finalist.

He warmed up for McFly at the Kent Music Festival 2005 in front of an audience of 10,000 and with an old band headlined the first night of the Hastings Festival 2006. The style of arrangement and playing throughout the music is broad and varied, largely that of jazz/rock fusion but often crossing into many genres. Influence heavily by artists like The Dregs, Miles Davis, John McLaughlin, Pat Metheny Group, Pink Floyd and Metallica. The band is currently preparing and perfecting a live set, after which the group are set to play a string of live shows around the UK. The line up is;

Jimmy Owen.......................................................................Guitars, Lap Steel, Backing Vocals
Mike Orson...............................................................................Piano, Keyboards, Lead Vocals
Rob Atkin.............................................................................................................................Drums
Steve Rainbow..........................................................................................................................Bass

Welcome to the Hastings Beer and Music Festival website for the 2006 Festival. We've been asked time and time again over the last few months, "How are you going to top last years festival". We knew it was going to be hard, but we are now in a position to announce how we are going to do it!!! It's our 25th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to bring in another top act. Saturday night will see none other than Status Quo headline our stage.
